About Me

About Me

It all started when I was 9-years-old.  I persuaded my mom to send me to horse camp for a week during that summer.  She agreed to send me for one session and that is how I realized my love of the horse.  From then on my passion grew from session to session and summer to summer.  I went from camper, to after camp volunteer, to taking care of horses owned by family friends just to have more time with the horses.  Actual riding lessons were scattered throughout my childhood because of the expense, but I always found some way to be with the magnificent creatures I cared so much about.

I attended Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre to receive my Riding Master VI certificate.  [ click here to visit meredithmanor.com ]  I majored in training of the horse; from ground work at any age, to starting horses under saddle, to fine-tuning the experienced horse.  My riding disciplines consisted of Reining and Dressage.

Then came the summer I was old enough to volunteer at The Ranch Therapeutic Riding Center.  [ visit curative.org under ‘recreational programs’ to learn more about therapeutic riding ]  I helped out around the barn with daily chores and with clients’ “in-saddle” therapy.  In exchange I received riding lessons and enormous amounts of experience.  I was so impressed with the program that I later returned to The Ranch as an employee while attending college.

After graduation, I continued my education through Jumping lessons and extended my knowledge of Dressage with more riding lessons from reputable trainers within Wisconsin and Illinois.  I never let an opportunity to learn pass me by.  I audited upper level Dressage clinics on a regular basis, and rode along as a volunteer groom on many occasions from Hunter/Jumper events, to Western Pleasure shows, to Dressage schooling classes and clinics.

I am currently seeking more understanding of the horse’s mechanics by working with a multi-disciplined trainer, Paula Curtis.  Paula is creating more situations for me to broaden my horizons!  [ click here to view Paula’s website.  jackandpaulacurtis.com ]

Not only do I want to expand my knowledge in riding . . . I want to continue to learn all I can about all facets of the horse world.  In doing so I accepted a position at Wisconsin Equine Clinic and Hospital as the third shift ‘foal watcher’.  Then I later increased my responsibilities to helping the vets and the vet techs, during the day, with in-clinic foal cases.   My experience in foal handling and behavior, along with many aspects of the equine medical field, grew expansive through the years.  [click here to visit wisconsinequineclinic.com]
